October 2023 was a dark month in Lewiston.
I know it all too well and have vivid memories of lockdown. I was terrified. But gun violence did not begin on Oct. 25.
Every lockdown drill at school and conversation among peers about what we would do if tragedy strikes — these are all daily reminders of the gun violence epidemic.
So, I am working to elect officials who are committed to our safety.
Angus King consistently works across the aisle to enact bipartisan changes like background checks, red flag laws and mental health resources. He also finds creative ways to prevent the sale of machinery that causes mass harm (think bump stocks and pistol grips).
We can’t wait any longer. We need leaders in Washington who have the experience to make change. I hope people join me in supporting King, who not only cares about Lewiston but cares about making a real difference.
