BRUNSWICK, ME – The Angus King for U.S. Senate Campaign today announced that the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund has endorsed U.S. Senator Angus King’s (I-Maine) re-election to the U.S. Senate.

“We only have one planet to protect for future generations,” Senator King said. “And in Maine, our environment is not only a beautiful reason to get outside, it also helps drive the economy – bolstering the tourism industry and giving life to our vast natural resources. During my first term in the Senate, I’ve worked on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to protect public lands and develop common sense, affordable clean energy policy. But we have so much more to do to make sure our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy a healthy, vibrant natural environment. I’ve been to the ice sheets in Greenland and seen the fastest melting glacier in the world, which further underscores the urgency of environmental conservation. It is incumbent on all of us to remember how fragile our world is, and to work together to keep it beautiful and bountiful for all to enjoy.”

“Senator King is an important leader for building a clean energy economy and addressing climate change in the U.S. Senate,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “From his work creating clean energy projects in Maine to protecting the state’s beautiful outdoor heritage, Senator King has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to protecting our environment for future generations. We are excited to support this conservation and clean energy champion once again as he runs for re-election.”

“Senator King knows that a healthy Maine environment is essential to our economy and way of life,” said Maine Conservation Voters Executive Director Maureen Drouin. “Maine people can count on Senator King to conserve our air, land, water, and wildlife, tackle the threat of climate change, and grow our clean energy economy. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator King to protect our natural resources and secure an economic future for our children.”

As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and Senate Climate Action Task Force, Senator King has worked to develop policies that mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect the environment during his first term in Washington. He has worked to promote clean energy policies like the Clean Power Plan and has stressed the importance of international cooperation to fight against climate change. He has also used his position on the Senate Armed Services Committee to highlight the ramifications of climate change for U.S. national security through sea-level rise, famine, and human migration patterns.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental laws and policies. Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 74 U.S. senators and 331 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, its efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.

Senator King has also been endorsed by End Citizens United, the Maine Education Association, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Professional Firefighters of Maine, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local S6, and the Maine State Council of Machinists.
